The Infiorata di Noto is a traditional festival that takes place every year in the Sicilian city of Noto, during the third weekend of May. The festival is famous for its streets decorated with beautiful floral works, which create a unique and colorful atmosphere.
It is held in honor of Corpus Christi, a Catholic religious holiday which celebrates the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. The floral decorations cover the streets of the historic center of the city for about a kilometer and represent scenes from the Bible, geometric designs or abstract motifs, made with flower petals and leaves.
The event begins on the Saturday evening before Corpus Domini, with the traditional "shooting of the fireworks" (a sort of fireworks display) and continues until the following Sunday evening.
The program of the Infiorata di Noto 2023 has not yet been officially announced, but usually includes the following activities:
- Saturday evening: "shot of the fireworks" and opening of the party
- Sunday: creation of floral decorations during the day and musical and cultural performances in the evening
- Monday: Corpus Christi procession with the passage on the carpet of flowers, accompanied by bands and faithful dressed in traditional clothes
- Tuesday: opening of the exhibition of drawings and flowers used for decorations, which remains open for a few weeks
