The enveloping rhythm of great music still resounds in the heart of the city, symbol of Sicilian Baroque. This summer, the Notomusica International Festival makes its glorious return with an extraordinary program, celebrating its forty-eighth edition under the banner of musical contaminations and synergies. The fusion between classical music and jazz becomes the keystone of this festival, which from 9 July to 3 August will welcome some of the biggest names on the international music scene in Sicily.
"The Festival represents a consolidated reality, with great experience", underlines Rina Rossitto, president of the Associazione Concerti Città di Noto, promoter of the event. "It honors the prestige of the 'Noto' brand and constitutes a powerful attraction for a transversal audience, contributing every year to the growth of cultural tourism. Also for 2023, Notomusica makes summer on the island unique, presenting a program of the highest level inaugurated by the concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Milan".
The festival will kick off on Sunday 9 July at 21.30 with the Milan Philharmonic Orchestra of La Scala, directed for the occasion by Maestro Robert Trevino. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Noto and produced by Mediatica in collaboration with the Concerti Association, will take place on the majestic Staircase of the Cathedral of Noto, paying homage to the extraordinary Maria Callas on the occasion of the centenary of her birth. To commemorate the famous Greek-American soprano, the Ambrosian orchestra will perform Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 in A major Op.90, also known as "Italian" since it was written by the German composer during his trip to beautiful Italy. In addition, Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major Op.92 will be performed, a masterpiece characterized by extreme rhythmic complexity.
